PARISH NURSES - STATEMENT OF BELIEFS

We believe

1.

God has inextricably linked health and salvation in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

2.

The message of the church is to proclaim that Jesus Christ is able and willing to redeem and to heal the whole of our lives ? body, mind and spirit.

3.

The church through worship, teaching, prayer and fellowship promotes health, healing and wholeness.

4.

The Body of Christ has been gifted, instructed and enabled by the Holy Spirit to be a healthy and healing community.

5.

Anointing with oil and the prayer of faith for the sick as taught in the Scriptures are privileges for the Church today.

6.

Individuals and their families have the primary responsibility for managing their own health and well-being.

7.

The role of the local church in the setting of major changes in our health care services is to address the spiritual dimensions of health and healing and to support and complement the existing family, social and health care systems. To fulfill our social responsiveness in this area, we will need to form partnerships with other community health resources to provide creative responses to health care concerns.

8.

The role of Parish Nurse Ministry is to strengthen the current ministries of the local church; to support the abilities of individuals, families and congregations in dealing with health care challenges. The Parish Nurse does this through health-focused spiritual (pastoral) care, health education, counsel, referral, advocacy and coordination of service with lay teams.

9.

Alliance Parish Nurse Ministries are empowered in their role by the formation of a Health Ministries Committee within the local church.. The formation of this committee is a way of involving members of the congregation in health ministries and at the same time provides support, guidance and a broad based vision for the Parish Nurse Ministry.
10. Further, we believe that through Parish Nursing Ministry, The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Canada will be enabled to reach out in mission and point-of-need ministries into local communities.
